A business-class traveler making a journey from Mumbai to Newark on an Air India plane switched seat in the economy class to sit next to a female passenger and then supposedly touched her in an inappropriate manner while she was asleep.

The man’s bad touch woke up the female passenger and she then made a complaint to the cabin crew. The lady and Air India filed a complaint after landing in the US and the 40-year old man was arrested by the police.

Al 191 had departed from Mumbai at 2 am on December 21. Four hours after departure, the cabin crew discovered a woman shedding tears in the rear gallery. The lady, who was an economic class passenger, alleged that a man sitting next to her had placed his hands on her breasts. The lady yelled at him, warned him, and then proceeded to complain to the cabin crew.

“The alleged molester was assigned business class seat 8F, which is in the second row of the aircraft (it was a two-configuration aircraft, business and economy). He told the cabin crew in the business section of the Boeing 777 that he would be sitting in the economy section as his colleague was there and they had to complete some work,” said sources.

After the lady’s accusation, the crew approached the man. “The man told the crew that he was a frequent economy-class flyer and could not sleep in business class. He said he found a vacant seat and occupied the same,” said sources.

But, by now the man became aware of the fact that the lady was going to file a written complaint against him in the US. “He then began groveling and requested the crew to allow him to meet the woman to apologize and say that he had accidentally touched her while he himself was asleep. The woman refused to meet the person,” said sources.

After becoming aware of the problem he was in, the man, who is the father of an 11-year old daughter wrote an apology letter begging her to change her decision. The man claimed that the lady’s decision would jeopardize his career. He also said that he has a brother who is physically challenged and that he has just shifted to the US from India.

“I wish I could rewind time and correct what has happened. But please do not let five minutes of stupidity kill what I have worked on for 40 years… Because of the immigration status we are in, it means punishment for all linked to me,” he writes. The crew also informed the captain who then called the airport police on arrival.
