The former president of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf on Thursday gave clear indications that fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim is in Karachi. This comes a day after Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi asserted that Dawood, the main accused in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai, is in Pakistan.
Musharraf was talking to a Pakistani news channel when he said, ” Why should we be good to India and help them. They have been accusing Pakistan for long. Dawood must be here, somewhere. Dawood has been reacting because India has been killing Muslims.”
Even though India kept on maintaining the fact that Dawood lives in a palatial house in Karachi , Pakistan has consistently denied about the underworld don residing in Pakistan. India has been sending several dossiers to Islamabad in this regard, naming Dawood as the accused in the Mumbai blast case.
On Wednesday, the Home Secretary said that the government is making all efforts and taking all required action so that Dawood could be brought back to India.
“Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan. That country has given him shelter. That country is also putting hurdles in bringing him back to India to face the law,” Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said.
“Pakistan has given Dawood Ibrahim shelter and they are also creating in bringing him back to India to face the law,” Mehrishi further added.
Mehrishi said the Pakistan’s “attitude” was not in conformity with international law and it is working against India in its case against Dawood.
“We are taking whatever action that is required and the process is on. We will get him. But Pakistan government’s attitude is not in conformity with International law,” he said.
Dawood is the main accused in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case in Mumbai in which around 260 people were killed, and more than 700 were injured. He fled India post the bombings and is hiding in Pakistan at present.
