Owners of Delhi’s iconic ‘Regal Theatre’ have decided to pull the curtains down for this eight decades old theatre. This 84 years old cinema house is set to get renovated and soon, it will make a comeback in a new avatar.

Building of Regal theatre itself is sight of beauty, it’s beautiful architecture following
Georgian style, mesmerized everyone. Regal was just not a matter of Movie watching, it was an experience to be cherished, maintains all it’s loyal patrons.

It was this Regal Theatre only, which had the honour of having showman, Raj Kapoor himself here at noon show, the first day, first show, bond that Regal shared with Kapoors is well known. Regal also gave it’s screen to arthouse fares and thus, even classics directed by Shyam Benegal and other were played for lovers of art films.

But right now, owners feel that the building now needs some modifications and they to make some changes so that they can provide more facilities for comfort of patrons. “The Building has become very old and we can’t give the facilities the patrons deserve. It’s so much competition right at our throat-from multiplexes and other sources. We’ve got to upgrade and stay in the competition”, said Vishal Chaudary, one of the owners and he even said, “It needs repair, maintainence and renovation. With time everything changes and it’s high time for Regal to close down and open up in again in a new avatar.”

Currently, Regal theatre is showcasing Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh starrer ‘Phillauri’ but on the last day, owners have decided to pay their tribute to Raj Kapoor and so, his classics ‘Mera Naam Joker’ and ‘Sangam’ will get screened on the last day i.e on March 31.
