In a historic and probably the most curiously inspected event ever, Walt Disney Co. finally sealed the deal with Fox Studios, and acquired the company, shelling out ‘a more than whopping’, $52.4 billion! With this, there’s no denying that Disney will be the superior company to all its rivals, from this moment, in terms of revenue, mass reach, rising stocks etc.
Just after buying Fox and sealing the deal, Bob Iger, Disney’s Chairman CEO said:
The acquisition of this stellar collection of businesses from 21st Century Fox reflects the increasing consumer demand for a rich diversity of entertainment experiences that are more compelling, accessible and convenient than ever before.
We’re honoured and grateful that Rupert Murdoch has entrusted us with the future of businesses he spent a lifetime building, and we’re excited about this extraordinary opportunity to significantly increase our portfolio of well-loved franchises and branded content to greatly enhance our growing direct-to-consumer offerings.
The deal will also substantially expand our international reach, allowing us to offer world-class storytelling and innovative distribution platforms to more consumers in key markets around the world.
While, the Chairman of Disney, Rupert Merdoch said:
We are extremely proud of all that we have built at 21st Century Fox, and I firmly believe that this combination with Disney will unlock even more value for shareholders as the new Disney continues to set the pace in what is an exciting and dynamic industry.
Furthermore, I’m convinced that this combination, under Bob Iger’s leadership, will be one of the greatest companies in the world.
I’m grateful and encouraged that Bob has agreed to stay on, and is committed to succeeding with a combined team that is second to none.”
Well, whatever being said, it’s now a reality that Disney-Fox are one, and are ready to take a new flight, ‘together’.
But, more openly speaking, its going to be more like a ‘Disney monopoly’, over others. Still, considering the vastness of decades old charisma made by the ‘Mickey Mouse’ creator company, only the best can be hoped for, from this point.
And what could be more exciting to see, than the ultimate, big convergence of the MCU and X-Men characters? Surely, nothing else.
Many Marvel fans have been waiting and imagining this their lives, to actually watch their favourite comic-book team of superheroes, coming together and saving the day! Just imagine for once-Deadpool, X-Men team, and our beloved Logan, aka Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine (there’s chance that he may be resurrected for joining the MCU, in future Marvel flicks), all of them in one place with Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Hulk and others!
Still, the changes after this deal in the MCU will be seen only after the next year, since Marvel/Fox’s Deadpool 2 has been made already, and will be released somewhere around June.
And thinking personally and rationally, any movie fan will agree to this big acquisition, considering the fact that, from the moment Disney took the control of Marvel comics and also Star Wars (Lucasfilm Ltd.), they both are just proving to be a magnificently running franchises.
Where the rebooted Star Wars trilogy has been epic (The Force Awakens is the benchmark till now in box-office numbers and now, The Last Jedi is going to make another mark), the MCU story is just a golden phase in itself, not needing any introduction; and which will finally give us the much anticipated, Avengers: Infinity War, next year!
So, just hope for the best! And do give your opinions too, in the comments section and drop your reactions to tell what you think of this ‘big’ acquisition.
