Once again Goa wore a tag of Shame, A 25-year-old Irish woman was found dead and naked at an unaccompanied open place in South Goa, police said on Wednesday.

Police have started investigating the alleged rape and murder of the Irish tourist, who had arrived at Canacona sub-district, known for its attractive beaches like Palolem and Agonda, from Arambol in North Goa.

As per the recent reports of police, the deceased had come with a friend and had participated in Holi celebrations, before being found dead on Tuesday. “We are investigating people with whom she was playing Holi during a party here. Her friend has also given us some direction and we are questioning some suspects,” according to a police officer familiar with the probe, on condition of inconspicuousness.

Police, who are suspecting rape, have sent the body to the Goa Medical College near Panaji for a post mortem.

“The body was lying in a pool of blood without clothes and there was abuse to the head and face,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Sammy Tavares said.

One more high-profile rape case of a foreigner in Goa happened in 2008 of rape and murder of 15-year-old Scarlett Keeling. Keeling was a British teenager on a visit to India. Keeling was raped and left abused on the Anjuna beach on February 18, 2008. She had succumbed to her injuries. Her body was recovered in a semi-nude condition on the beach the next day. The trial for the Kneeling case had started back in 2010 and has seen the examination of nearly 70 witnesses over a period of 6 years.
