As was expected, Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif starrer Jagga Jasoos received a slow but decent response on its first day at domestic box-office. The film directed by Anurag Basu had an occupancy of around 25-30% for its morning shows. Although the response gradually increased, with afternoon and evening shows reaching from 35-55% occupancy. It’s one of the big releases after Salman Khan’s Tubelight.
The film has been released in 1800 screens, and majority of them are comprised of multiplexes, given the content, subject and appeal of the film.
Seeing its slow start, some reports have also suggested that Jagga Jasoos may have earned around Rs.8-10 crores on day 1. The official update on its collection, has still not been out, so it will be crucial to see how it fares on its remaining two days of its opening weekend, i.e., Saturday and Sunday.
Another unfavorable aspect for Jagga Jasoos may turn out to be in the face of Matt Reeves’s War for the Planet of the Apes, which also released alongside Jagga Jasoos yesterday. The third film in the Apes series has got a positive feedback from critics and stands at around 93% on online portal Rotten Tomatoes. So, if it turns out well in India too, then it will be tough for Jagga Jasoos to make a hold, especially in the period between its first and second week.
