The big and probably the ‘epic’ release of South this month, Mersal is already a blockbuster, reaching the 150 crore mark in just five days of its release! Made on a budget of around Rs.130 crore, the film starring star actor Vijay in a triple role, has turned out to be the much talked about film of this month after a big political influence, over its one controversial scene.
The much debated scene has the GST (Goods and Services Tax), (introduced by PM Narendra Modi at the onset of July), on a receiving end where it gets denounced, or in other words has been mocked!
BJP and Congress, both the parties demanded the deletion of the particular scene, thus claiming an attack on free speech.
The makers of the film, in the end have decided to remove the GST scene from the theatrical cut, to prevent further political outrage.
Murali Ramaswamy, the producer of the film said, “From their perspective, their opposition is just. If opinions (expressed in the movie) that may lead to misunderstanding need to be removed, we are ready for that too.”
