People from Hindustan should be called Hindus, their nationality is Hindu, says Bhagwat
Mohan Bhagwat has invented a new name for the citizens of Hindustan, which is Hindus. Irrespective of which religion and faith one belongs to, everyone should be considered as Hindus, he reiterates. Well, this remark from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh doesn’t seem so immune from the criticisms keeping in mind the inclinations, objectives and the nature of the RSS party.
The RSS chief, addressing the masses at Virat Hindu Sammelan in Betul, says, “ Muslims might be Muslim by religion, but they are Hindus by nationality. All those who live in Hindustan and respect its tradition and cultures are Hindus.” He adds, “It shouldn’t be a surprise if members of the Rashtriya Muslim Manch do an aarti of Bharat Mata. They are Hindus.”
The meeting was held to woo the tribals and Dalits whose votes are needed in the coming elections for their victory. He also said that the Hindus(Indians) should work in coordination to empower he marginalised sectors. He urged the people to erase the class based distinctions and glide towards a neutral society. He says, “We should have only one objective—to strengthen national interests irrespective of caste, creed and colour. People in Bengal or Tamil Nadu chant ‘ Bharat Mata ki Jai’ just the way we do in Hindi. There is no language barrier.”
The RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat was accompanied by former Union Minister who spoke about women empowerment in the meeting. The former also made a visit to Betul district jail, where the late Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, the second Sarsanghchalak of RSS was held in captive for 3 months in 1949. The organisation was banned after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Their visit was met with anger from the opposition party, the state Congress, who called it a violation of jail manuals.
