The national selection committee of the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) will meet on Wednesday in Mumbai to decide the Indian test team for the series against England starting Nov. 9.

“The Indian team is to be picked in Mumbai tomorrow,” BCCI sources told PTI on Tuesday. India has just finished a series against New Zealand with a 3-0 win.

The committee is headed by MSK Prasad.  Selection for the five- test series against England may not be easy. The opening batsman slot has to be decided, and there may be an opening for a bowler.

Veteran opener Gautam Gambhir got a call in the recent Kolkata test against New Zealand after an injury to opening batsman KL Rahul. He got an opportunity to play in the third test in Indore  and made 50 runs in the second innings.  Batsman and the other opener Shikhar Dhawan could not play in Indore due to a hand injury.

Bowler Ishant Sharma again was indisposed , hence off-break bowler Jayant Yadav was recalled for the second Test at Kolkata. Yadav did not get an opportunity to play in the eleven.

It is to be seen if the selectors repose faith in Gambhir even if Shikhar Dhawan and Rahul recover and are fit to play.

The rest of the squad is expected to be the same as against New Zealand with Virat Kohli at the helm as captain.

The English team is expected to arrive in Mumbai from Bangladesh  on Wednesday.  They will play a practice session on Nov. 5 at the Cricket Club of India before leaving for Rajkot in Gujarat where the opening test will be played from Nov 9-13. “Currently they are to have just one practice session. If they want more it will be arranged,” the sources informed, according to the Firstpost.

The other Tests are to be held in Vishakapatnam (Nov 17-21 ), Mohali (Nov 26-30), Mumbai (Dec 8-12) and Chennai ( Dec 16-20).
