It’s been two days since we rang in the New Year and bid adieu to the 2k17. People around the globe welcomed the New Year with fireworks lit up the sky over cities as new year celebrations, people partied hard, people attended celebratory events that were held at various restaurants, resorts, and hotels. In short, a million of Indian people welcomed New Year with open arms as the clock struck midnight on Monday.
We are Indian including those people who find drinking the only way to celebrate anything, any fest, any event. Though drinking isn’t immoral and crime if do only in a limit. But, it becomes crime and threat to the lives of others when the drinker takes steering in their hands. The same happens every night of the New Years. People drink a lot to ring in the year and they without any responsibility for themselves and others, come out on the roads and drive by themselves.
You will be shocked to know that, around 1,752 cases of drink and driving were registered by Delhi Police on New Year’s night. Special Commissioner of Police, Dependra Pathak (Traffic) said, “A total of 16,720 challans were issued for various traffic violations on New Year’s Eve and post-midnight.”
The cases registered for the drink and driving this year is almost double the number registered in 2016 which was 889. For the night of New Year, Delhi Police adopted Zero Tolerance policy and hence the most offenders of drink and driving being caught around Connaught Place, Hauz Khas Village, and Khan Market.
It’s clearly a disappointing number.
