After launching the Mi Max 2 with 32GB storage version in India last month, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi on Tuesday announced the launch of its much-awaited bezel-less display smartphone, called the “Xiaomi Mi Mix 2” at an event in New Delhi, India. The new Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is the successor to company’s previous Mi Mix, which was launched in China last year. Both smartphones sport unique bezel-less design, metal chassis and ceramic rear body, which were designed by French designer Philippe Starck.

If you don’t remember, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 was first launched in China in September with a starting price of CNY 3,299 (approximately Rs. 32,350). The Mi Mix 2 comes in three different variants based on their RAM and internal storage capacity — Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 with 6GB RAM & 64GB internal storage, Mi Mix 2 with 6GB RAM & 128GB internal storage, and Mi Mix 2 with 6GB RAM & 256GB internal storage. In the Indian market, the company has launched the 6GB RAM & 128GB internal storage version of Mi Mix 2.  Carried a price tag of Rs. 35,999, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will be made available for Mi Fans (preview sale) on October 17 at 12 noon exclusively via e-commerce website Flipkart.com and Mi.com. The smartphone will also be available for open sale via Flipkart.com, Mi Store and other offline retailer partners starting the first week of November in Black colour and a Zero percent EMI option.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 comes equipped with a large 5.99-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The display has 18:9 aspect ratio, DCI-P3 colour gamut, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and offers a pixel density of 403ppi. Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is powered by a 2.45GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor clubbed with Adreno 540 image processing unit to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the Mi Mix 2 is backed up by 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On the software fronts, the device runs company’s proprietary MIUI 9 custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system. The Mi Mix 2 also features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric security. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 sports a four-sided curved ceramic body with 7-Series aluminium alloy frame and a 18K gold plated camera ring on the back panel, giving it an overall luxury and premium outlook.

In terms of optics, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 features a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with Sony IMX386 sensor, an f/2.0 aperture, 1.25μm pixel size, 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilisation), and dual-tone LED flash. The rear camera is also capable of shooting videos in 4K (2160p) resolution. On the front, the handset features a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with autofocus and facial recognition technology support, which can be used to unlock the smartphone.

On the connectivity front, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 offers 2.2 dual-band Wi-Fi technology that allows for better and wider connectivity. Apart from this, the dual-SIM (nano + nano) smartphone also offers various connectivity options including with 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2×2 MIMO), Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB-Type C port for superfast charging and other connectivity. Sensors on the smartphone include Fingerprint (rear-mounted), Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Ambient Light sensor, Barometer, E-Compass, and Ultrasonic Proximity sensor. On the battery front, the Mi Mix 2 comes packed with a decent non-removable 3,400mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology support. Dimensionally, the Mi Mix 2 measures 151.8 x 75.5 x 7.7mm and weighs 185 grams.

At the launch event, the Chinese vendor also launched its latest Mi Noise Cancelling Earphones USB Type-C version in India at a price tag of Rs. 2,999. Talking about its specifications, the earphone’s drivers have a frequency range of 20 – 40,000Hz and feature an iron acoustic architecture and a reliable micro-electromechanical microphone that effectively blocks the surrounding noise during voice calls. The Mi Noise Cancelling Earphones will be available for purchase in India sometime later of this month via Mi.com.
