The English-born actor of Indian origin, Dev Patel has reached a huge milestone with his latest nomination for the Oscars. He has been nominated under the category of the Best Actor in a Supporting role for his movie ‘Lion’.
The actor is still recognized as Jamal Malik as in Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, here in his country of origin. Dev began his career through a television series ‘Skins’ and rose to fame with the Oscar-winning ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Since then, he has starred in various English movies and has essayed the role of an Indian in few of his movies.
‘Lion’ is the movie based on the novel by Saroo-Breierly’s bestseller, ‘A Long Way Home’. It is the story about an Indian boy who sleeps during his journey through a train and wakes up to find himself in an alien place. He’s thereafter adopted by an Australian family. The rest of the story highlights his struggle to find his parents.
The movie would be releasing in India on February 24. He would be competing in the Oscars against fellow actors including Mahershala Ali (‘Moonlight’) and Jeff Bridges (‘Hell or High Water’). “Without his love, commitment and vision ‘Lion’ wouldn’t have been able to roar. To that extent, I want to share this incredible feeling with Luke, Grieg, Jenny Kent, Lain, Angie, Emile, Sunny, Nicole, David, Rooney, Divian, Priyanka, the Brierley family as well as the Weinstein Co team,” said the actor.
Though Dev is an English actor, his Indian origin has gathered him several fans here and people around the country wish that he bags the Oscar this year.
