Sony on Thursday launched its two new G-Series Professional Solid State Drives (SSD), SV-GS96 and SV-GS48, in the Indian media market. These professional SSDs are designed for external video recorders docked to camcorders or high-performance DSLR cameras. Memory wise, the SV-GS96 SSD comes with a storage capacity of 960GB, while the SV-GS48 comes packed with 480GB of storage capacity. As for pricing, the new Sony memory storage drives have been priced at Rs. 47,500 and Rs. 25,500 respectively and both the drives will be made available in the third week of May across all Sony Center and major electronic retail stores in India.
“Building on the reliability synonymous with Sony’s Professional Media products, the new SSDs are a solid option for respective video recorders, offering videographers stable high-speed capabilities, a sense of security and lower cost of ownership due to their longer life,” the company said in its release.
Using Sony’s Error Correction Code technology, the 960GB G Series solid state drive achieves up to 2,400 TBW (terabytes written), while the 460GB SSD can reach up to 1,200 TBW, resulting in less frequent replacement and increased ROI. 2,400 TBW translates to about 10 years of use for the SV-GS96, if data is fully written to the drive on an average of five times per week.
Sony says that other SSDs have a propensity for data write speeds to suddenly drop after repeated re-write cycles, but the new Sony G-series storage drives feature a built-in technology that prevent these speeds from sudden decreases. This technology ensures stable recording of high bitrate 4K resolution video without frame dropping. The drives are especially designed for ultra-fast, stable data writing. Both the Sony G-Series professional SSDs come with data protection technology that that has been claimed to keep the content safe, secure and intact, even in case of sudden power cut.
When connected with the necessary connection cables, both G-series storage drives can be effortlessly removed from a recorder and connected to a computer for file downloading, faster and easier with read speeds up to 550MB/s.
