LG unveils Q6, Q6+, Q6a smartphones with FullVision display and Face recognition tech

After a series of many leaks and revelations, South Korean electronics giant LG on Tuesday finally announced its new “Q” series of mid-range smartphones at an event in Poland. The LG Q6 comes in three different variants based on their RAM and internal storage capacity — LG Q6, LG Q6+ and LG Q6a. Unfortunately, the company has made no official announcements about the pricing details and availability of the new “Q” series smartphone but it has confirmed that all these smartphones will go on sale in key Asian markets starting next month, followed by Europe, Latin America, and North America. The exact pricing details of the new Q family smartphones will be revealed at the time of sale. The main highlights of the new smartphones are their wonderful FullVision display with 18:9 aspect ratio as we have seen on the company’s flagship LG G6. Instead of a fingerprint recognition button, the entire Q6 lineup features LG’s proprietary “Face Recognition” technology to make the device secure.

“The LG Q6 is a blend of premium features, great performance and attractive pricing, a combination that is extremely important to us as we look at the way consumers are using smartphones around the world. The Q series is our way of getting the superb experiences with the essence of the LG’s premium line-ups to more consumers’ hands and pockets,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

In terms of design, the new Q-series smartphone lineup borrows a lot of its characteristics from the company’s previous flagship smartphone, LG G6. All these aforementioned Q6 smartphones sport an ultra-strong 7000 series aerospace aluminium unibody construction and an aluminium curved frame all around, giving them an overall premium look. The 7000 series aerospace aluminium metal frame makes the devices quite durable. Basically, the LG Q6 lineup looks very identical to the LG G6, including its FullVision display and super-slim bezels. All three smartphones feature onscreen navigation buttons and lack the fingerprint sensor. The volume up-down keys are placed on the left-hand edge, while the power/lock button is situated on the right-hand edge of the smartphones. The rear panel of the devices houses a 13MP primary camera, a LED flash module and a speaker grille, while the top front panel features a 5MP selfie camera and an earpiece. A 3.5mm audio socket is seen on the very bottom edge of the handsets along with a USB Type-B 2.0 charging port sitting in the middle. However, the overall design is quite similar to what we have seen on the LG G6.
