The hype is undoubtedly real.

Pennywise, the Dancing Clow has scared away the competition at the US box office in the horror film It with a massive $117 million collection in its opening weekend. The horror film based on acclaimed author Stephen King’s all-time best-selling novel which had also spawned a TV miniseries in the early 1990’s is now the talk of the town.

Hollywood has this year seen one of its worst summers as many big budget films that were expected to perform well at the box office sank without a trace. However, horror films have enjoyed a gratifying success namely Jordan Peele’s Get Out and M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, both hauling in over $250 million worldwide under the Universal Pictures banner followed by Warner Bros.’ Annabelle: Creation now moving towards the $300 million mark.

It, on the other hand has given Warner Bros. much reason to celebrate as these numbers are from the US box office alone with early international box office collections estimated to be standing at $62 million thereby making it the best opening for any horror film till date.

Made at a modest budget of $35 million, It‘s opening is right up with Spider-Man: Homecoming ($117 million), which shared a similar start followed by Wonder Woman ($80 million).
