He’s one of the most debated filmmakers of our time. J. J. Abrams has now been officially announced to helm the final installment in the ongoing Star Wars threequel trilogy.
Lucasfilm made the announcement for Star Wars: Episode IX moments back in an official statement which goes as follows:
“J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.”
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy further added, “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,”.
Despite the thunderous box office success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J. J. Abrams’ work with the film has been a subject of huge discussion among the fans. The former Mission Impossible 3 and Star Trek filmmaker will look to seize this opportunity to deliver yet another knockout and this time with an universal approval.
Meanwhile, the eighth and next installment in the saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson and starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis in returning roles along with new cast members Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran is slated to hit screens worldwide on December 15, 2017.
