After launching the A41 Power smartphone in the Indian tech market last month, home-grown handset manufacturer Karbonn Mobiles on Monday expanded its product portfolio with the launch of an entry-level smartphone, called the “Karbonn K9 Smart Grand” in India. Priced at Rs. 5,290, the new Karbonn K9 Smart Grand will be made available for purchase in India starting today via all leading offline retail stores across the country in Black and Champagne colour options. The Karbonn K9 Smart Grand is the successor to the company’s previous K9 Smart, which was launched in India last year. The key highlights of the smartphone are its Android 7.0 Nougat OS, fingerprint sensor, 2.5D curved glass protected display, and 4G VoLTE (voice over LTE) connectivity support.

In terms of specifications, the Karbonn K9 Smart Grand comes equipped with a 5.2-inch FWVGA display with a screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass coating on top of the display. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor (unspecified) coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is further expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the smartphone runs on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. The Karbonn K9 Smart Grand also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric security.
In terms of photography, the Karbonn K9 Smart Grand features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash. On the front, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with a soft LED flash for capturing bright selfies even in low light conditions. The rear-facing camera features on the smartphone include Panorama shot, Continuous shot and Face detection.
In terms of connectivity, this dual-SIM smartphone offers 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, FM Radio, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. Sensors on the device include Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor and a Fingerprint sensor (rear-mounted). On the battery front, the Karbonn K9 Smart Grand is fuelled by a 2,300mAh Li-ion battery that is rated to deliver up to 8.5 hours of talktime on 2G network and up to 288 hours of standby time. Dimensionally, the handset measures at 150 x 74 x 9.45 mm and weighs in at 178 grams (including battery).
