Blade Runner 2049 and IT's Pennywise

Dennis Villeneuve’s science-fiction masterpiece and critically acclaimed blockbuster, Blade Runner 2049, has performed contrary to its nature, on the box-office front. The Ryan Gosling-Harrison Ford starrer has debuted with just $31.5 million! It is way less than the projected numbers by many analysts, before its release. It was deemed to open with ‘a not-so-big’ collection, but the actual numbers for the opening weekend have been really disappointing. It’s very sad, for such a visual beauty and probably one of the best pictures in recent years.

Blade Runner 2049 was predicted to earn at least $36 million domestically, in its first week, but the actual figures were below expectations.

The movie, distributed by Warner Bros., clocked at $50 million, on the worldwide box-office. Still, it’s way less, than the earlier projections. And it’s really not good for a movie made on a massive budget of approximately $155 million (some reports claim it to be above $180 million!).

One of the reasons for its shocking box-office performance is said to be its run time of 2hours and 43 minutes. Yeah, it’s a bit lengthy since many theatres are forced to limit the screenings of other releases in a specified time and due to its duration, the outcomes have been negative for Blade Runner 2049.

Meanwhile, another Warner Bros release ‘IT’ is still strong after a month of its release and is creating new records on the box-office. The horror movie starring Bill Skarsgard as the scary clown, Pennywise, has now crossed the mark of $600 million, worldwide!

Moreover, the Stephen King adaptation has also become the fifth US movie of 2017 to gross $300 million, domestically. So far, it has taken in around $305 million, in the US alone.
