According to various listings and speculation, Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi is supposedly working on a new Redmi-branded smartphone, this would be the successor of the Redmi Note 4 and will be christened as the Redmi Note 5. Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphone, the Redmi Note 5 has been spotted on Chinese certification website – TENAA, revealing almost everything about the smartphone. The Chinese regulatory website has also shared some alleged images of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 with codenames MET7/MEE7. Although the site doesn’t reveal any specific model of the smartphone, it is being speculated that the upcoming Xiaomi device will be the successor to the company’s most successful Redmi Note 4. However, there are numerous leaks and rumours about the Redmi Note 5 have been surfaced on the various websites from the last couple of months. The Redmi Note 5 has been subjected to multiple leaks ahead of the launch which does reveal a gist of specifications and features about the device.
The TENAA listing also reveals that the device will come in Black Gold, White, Blue, Red, Gray, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold colour options. The smartphone is expected to be announced sometime in mid-November. If you take a look at the provided TENAA images, you will get to see the metal unibody design of the smartphone with a full-screen 18:9 display, a single camera setup and a fingerprint sensor on the back. Although the listing doesn’t reveal any specific chipset, the earlier reports and rumours suggest that the upcoming Xiaomi device will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600-series chipset.
According to TENAA listing, the Redmi Note 5 will have a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2160 × 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass coating on top of the display. The display will also come loaded with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device is expected to be powered by a 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core processor. On the other side, GizmoChina report suggests that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 could feature a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. The Snapdragon 636 chipset is made on 14nm FinFET technology and offers 40 percent better performance compared to the Snapdragon 630 chipset as it uses Kryo 260 cores (with a clock speed of 1.8GHz).
In terms of memory, the Redmi Note 5 will be offered in two variants: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage (both storage variants are further expandable up to 128GB). On the software front, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will run company’s proprietary MIUI 9 custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system.
In terms of photography, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is expected to sport a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with a dual-tone LED flash. On the front, it will feature a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for capturing selfies and making video calls. For connectivity, the Redmi Note 5 will support dual-SIM dual standby (micro + nano/microSD), 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the battery front, the Redmi Note 5 will be backed up by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery. The upcoming Xiaomi smartphone will also sport a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric security. Dimensionally, the handset will be measuring in at 158.5 x 75.45 x 8.05 mm and weighing in at 179.5 grams.
