After launching the Xperia XZ1 premium smartphone in India last month, Japanese smartphone manufacturer Sony Corporation on Friday silently expanded its product portfolio with the launch of its two new mid-range smartphones, “the Sony Xperia R1 and the Xperia R1 Plus” in the Indian market. The new Sony Xperia R1 and the Xperia R1 Plus smartphones have been launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 12,990 and Rs. 14,990 respectively. Both the smartphones will be made available for purchase in India starting November 10 (Friday) via all Sony Center and other leading offline retail stores across the country in Black and Silver colour options. The Sony Xperia R1 and the Xperia R1 Plus will also be available on e-commerce websites Amazon India and Flipkart. The freshly launched Xperia devices will be available for pre-registration starting today (October 27, 2017) on Amazon India. Interested customers, who pre-book a Xperia R1 or Xperia R1 Plus smartphone on Amazon India, they will get a special offer.
In terms of design, both the smartphones are looks very identical to the company’s recently launched Xperia XA1 Plus and other devices in the Xperia X lineup with respect to design. The Sony Xperia R1 and the Xperia R1 Plus smartphones sport a Sony’s signature loop design with a sophisticated plastic body, giving them an overall fresh and premium look. The volume up-down keys and the power/lock button are all placed on the right-hand edge of the smartphones and a USB Type-C charging port is located on the very bottom edge of the device. The 13MP rear camera setup is still positioned exactly the top left corner of the rear panel of the devices, while a 8MP front-facing camera is fixed on the top left corner of the front panel.
Sony Xperia R1 Specifications and Features:
Starting with the Sony Xperia R1, the smartphone features a 5.2-inch TFT HD display with screen resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass coating on top of the display. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core (4 x 1.2GHz Cortex A53 & 4 x 1.5 GHz Cortex A53) processor clubbed with Adreno 505 GPU to take care the graphics content. In terms of memory, the Sony Xperia R1 comes loaded with a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Sony Xperia R1 runs on Google’s Android 7.1 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. Sony has confirmed that the Sony Xperia R1 will get the Android 8.0 Oreo update soon.
In terms of photography, the Sony Xperia R1 sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera unit with hybrid autofocus, Exmor RS image sensor, 8x digital zoom and an LED Flash module. Talking about its front camera, the Xperia R1 includes an 8-megapixel camera with 76-degree wide-angle lens for capturing selfies and making video calls.

Moving on to the little larger Sony Xperia R1 Plus, the device flaunts a 5.2-inch HD display with screen resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels and offers a borderless edge-to-edge design. The display is also protected by a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass. Under the hood, the smartphone is also powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 505 GPU to take care the graphics content. In terms of memory, the Sony Xperia R1 Plus model is backed up by a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Sony Xperia R1 Plus runs on Google’s Android 7.1 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. It will also get the Android 8.0 Oreo update soon.
