Indian ace shuttler and Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu made a winning start at the prestigious BWF World Super Series Final, defeating the world number 8 Akane Yamaguchi in a thrilling encounter that went over the hour mark.
Sindhu, who is ranked number 10 in the world, came from a game down to win the match 12-21, 21-8, 21-15.
The first game didn’t go well at all for the Indian shuttler; she made more than a few mistakes that her rival Yamaguchi did well to pounce on. Even though Sindhu fought back a little as the game wore on, she continued to falter when it mattered the most, making a few unforced errors in the process. As a result she ended up losing the first game.
However, the tables were well and truly turned in the second game. Sindhu, knowing she had to win two games on the trot in order to make it to the next round, came out all guns blazing and took the early lead. Yamaguchi did manage to cut the lead initially, but eventually there was no stopping to Sindhu who comfortably took home the second game 21-8.
The deciding game was more evenly matched, although once Sindhu got the lead early on, she never looked like she would relinquish it. She gleaned from her mistakes during the first game and kept her focus whilst doing her best to neutralize her rival. It worked eventually and Sindhu took home the deciding game and the first round match 21-15.
The ace shuttler hasn’t even rested on the laurels of her Olympic glory earlier this year, as she has been on a back to back competitions One can only hope that she does well in the BWF World Super Series, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the badminton world.
