Imtiaz Ali’s latest love-saga, revolving around a lost ring, hasn’t been impressive enough to woo the audience in its opening weekend as the film performed below its expectations, contrary what trade analyst were thinking. Jab Harry Met Sejal didn’t manage to gross as it should have.
The film starring Shah Rukh Khan as Harry aka Harinder Singh Nehra and Anushka Sharma as Sejal, was low on its earnings on the first Friday (4th August), as it managed to collect just Rs.15.15 crore, which was way down for a movie starring King Khan. It also turned out as the lowest opening for a Shah Rukh Khan movie in the last 5 years!
On Saturday too, the film kept going static on the BO, taking Rs.15 crore. However, on Sunday it somehow took in Rs.15.5 crore-earning a total of Rs.45.5 crore in its three-day opening weekend. Its certain that it will touch the 50 crore mark, sooner or later, before its second Friday.
It was very poor, as far as the predictions for the movie are concerned, that were made before its release.
Made on a not-so-less budget of around Rs.80 crore, it seems not that impossible for the movie to recover its production cost, if it keeps going the way it is now. But if the earnings fall even more, then it may face a tough time, considering the release of Akshay Kumar-Bhumi Padnekar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which is scheduled to release this Friday.
