The Former Number one Tennis Player has got a wild card entry into the Madrid Open which will be held in the month of May. The Madrid open is taking place within two weeks of her 15-month doping ban expires.
Sharapova has been a five-time grand slam winner. It is scheduled as her second tournament of her comeback just after the Stuttgart Grand Prix which will be held in April.
The event director Manolo Santana said, “Sharapova requested an invitation to play… (She) is one of the best players of the last 15 years and also a past winner of our tournament”.
Also added saying, “In Madrid, she always plays well and I’m sure she will come back to the courts highly motivated and hoping to do well.”
In the 2016 Australian Open she was found to be positive in the test for the drug Meldonium and was thereafter suspended for two years by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Meldonium was added in the banned list of drug substances in the year 2016 after finding evidence that it enhances blood flow and boosts the performance.
