After launching the Ignis Alpha AMT variant in the Indian market earlier this month, the Indian arm of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has recently launched a new sporty version of its popular mid-size sedan, christened as the “Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S” in the Indian four-wheeler market. If you don’t remember, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was previously available only in four trims including Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. With the new “S” sporty variant, the mid-size sedan is now available in five trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha and S. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S variant is now available in both petrol and diesel engine options. As for pricing, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S with petrol engine variant has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 9.39 lakh, while the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S with diesel engine variant has been priced at Rs. 11.55 lakh (all prices are mentioned Ex-showroom, Delhi).

Introducing the new Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S trim in the Indian market, Mr. R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) said, “Ciaz has established itself as one of the most progressive brands of Maruti Suzuki and has sold over 1.70 lakh units of Ciaz cumulative since its launch in October 2014. Introduction of Ciaz S will further strengthen the position of Ciaz in the market by catering to the requirements of a younger yet premium customer who believes in the sporty spirit of life.”

The new Maruti Ciaz S comes equipped with an improved styling, exciting features, and a host of new cosmetic updates such as a new sporty body kit, a large trunk-lid spoiler and a premium interior, giving it an overall sleeker and sportier outlook. The diesel engine-powered Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S hybrid trim comes with all new premium black leather upholstery with grey and chrome inserts. The Ciaz S premium sedan has been updated with a new sporty body kit that includes front and rear bumper extensions, side underbody skirts, a prominent trunk lid spoiler with integrated high-mounted stop lamp. Inside the cabin, the car gets new stylish all-black interiors, black leather seats and leather-wrapped multi-functional steering wheel.

The Ciaz S sedan is now available in seven exciting body colour options that include Metallic Silky Silver, Pearl Midnight Black, Pearl Snow White, Pearl Metallic Dignity Brown, Metallic Glistening Gray, NEXA Blue and Pearl Sangria Red. Like the high-spec Alpha trim, the Ciaz S trim also offers various features inside the cabin including touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, automatic climate control and cruise control. Safety features on the vehicle include ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), dual front Airbags as standard, child safety lock, seat belt pre-tensioner with force limiter, ISOFIX Anchorage — a child seat restraint system as standard, indicators on ORVM and much more. Dimensionally, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S is now 15 mm longer in length as compared to the other trims. The car measures 4,505mm in length, 1,730 mm in width, 1,485 mm in height. It has a standard wheelbase of 2,650 mm and offers a ground clearance of 170 mm.

Talking about its mechanical department, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S comes in two engine variants —one petrol variant and one diesel variant. The petrol variant Maruti Ciaz S is powered by a 1.4-litre VVT petrol engine that develops 91 bhp of peak power at 6,000 rpm against the peak torque of 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm. On the other hand, the diesel variant Ciaz S is powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle from Suzuki) technology that generates 89 bhp of peak power at 4,000 rpm against the peak torque of 200 Nm at 1,750 rpm. The petrol engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel engine only comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission unit.

In the Indian lucrative market, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz S will compete against the likes of Honda City, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, and the upcoming 2017 Hyundai Verna.
