Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 18th movie, Black Panther, which was released last Friday, has debuted with a historic opening week on the US domestic box-office; shattering all predictions and pre-release expectations! The movie starring Chadwick Boseman as King T’Challa aka Black Panther, opened with a record breaking $201.8 million in the US alone, in its three-day opening week!
This is the fifth-biggest domestic opening of all-time, by a Hollywood movie and only second to Marvel’s own blockbuster, 2012’s The Avengers ($207.4 million).
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the genius and acclaimed filmmaker, the film was thought to be a great box-office success, even before its release, but what came out as being more surprising are the box-office figures-going even beyond the predicted earning figures.
Reaching Monday, 19th February, Black Panther collected around $242 million (from Friday to Monday), on domestic box-office. And it was absolutely shocking to see it breaking last year’s monster hit, Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s four-day domestic total figure of $241.6 million!
Only Star Wars: The Force Awakens had performed even more brilliantly (no doubt), with a four-day collection total of $288.1 million.
Talking about its worldwide debut, then ‘Black Panther’ has gone even further, by making a global total of $426.6 million till Monday.
Black Panther also stars actor Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, in a negative role or as a villain, specifically. Other actors include Latitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Andy Serkis as anothervillain, Klaw and Danai Gurira as Okoye.
Black Panther has also made the record of becoming the best reviewed superhero film on online site, Rotten Tomatoes, with a certified fresh rating of 97 percent!
