After launching the M2 smartphone in the Indian market last month, ZTE sub-brand Nubia on Tuesday expanded its product portfolio with the launch of an another mid-range smartphone, called the “Nubia M2 Play” in the Indian tech market. The Nubia M2 Play is a new member of company’s M-series that we have seen the recently launched M2 and M2 Lite with dual camera setup and now the M2 Play can be considered as a toned-down version of the M2 and M2 Lite. The main highlights of the smartphone are its Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS, stylish design, DTS surround sound, fingerprint sensor for biometric security, 4G VoLTE capabilities and a powerful 3,000mAh battery with NeoPower 2.5 technology support. Priced at Rs. 8,999, the Nubia M2 Play will be soon available for purchase in India exclusively via e-commerce platform Amazon India in Black colour option only.

Design wise, the new Nubia M2 Play is very identical to its younger sibling M2 Lite with respect to design. The Nubia M2 Play sports a sleek metal unibody design with metal frame all around, giving it a simple and classy look. The volume rockers are placed on the left-hand edge, while the power/lock button is situated on the right-hand edge of the smartphone. The rear panel of the phone houses a 13MP primary camera with an LED flash module, while the top front panel features a 5MP selfie camera and an earpiece. A 3.5mm audio jack is placed on the very top edge of the device, while the speaker grilles are seen at the very bottom edge of the handset along with a microUSB charging port sitting in the middle. The Nubia M2 Play features capacitive navigation buttons along with the company’s signature red circle physical Home Button, located just below the display panel. In addition, the smartphone also comes equipped with a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, that is housed underneath the physical Home Button of the device.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Nubia M2 Play sports a 5.5-inch semi-HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 720 × 1280 pixels and a 2.5D curved glass coating on top. In terms of power and performance, the device is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core (Cortex-A53) processor coupled with Adreno 505 image processor to handle the graphics content. In terms of memory, the Nubia M2 Play is backed by a 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. On the software front, the phone runs company’s proprietary nubia 5.0 custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system.

In terms of optics, the Nubia M2 Play features a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture, Sony CMOS sensor with hybrid autofocus (PDAF & CAF) and an LED flash module. On the front, the handset houses a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with an f/2.4 aperture, 84-degree wide-angle lens for capturing selfies and making video calls.

In terms of connectivity, the Nubia M2 Play is a dual-SIM smartphone that accepts two Nano-SIM cards. Connectivity options on the smartphone also include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, GPS/A-GPS, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB port for charging and other connectivity. On the battery front, the smartphone packs a 3,000mAh non-removable battery with NeoPower 2.5 battery optimisation technology support. Without compromising user experience, the nubia M2 Play provides a perfect balance between performance and energy consumption. Sensors on the smartphone include an Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Fingerprint sensor, and Ambient-light sensor.
