After endless leaks and rumours, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has finally taken the wraps off its two new full-screen display smartphones — the Oppo R11s and Oppo R11s Plus — at an event in China. As we reported, Oppo has recently launched its first full-screen display smartphone, called the “Oppo F5” in the Indian market. Similar to the Oppo F5, the R11s and R11s Plus smartphones also come with a bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 20-megapixel front-facing camera with A.I. Beauty Recognition technology support. With the launch of its new Oppo F5, Oppo R11s and R11s Plus smartphones, the Chinese vendor joins the elite 18:9 display club which is steadily being adopted by the reputed smartphone manufacturers. Actually, the new bezel-less display design is now becoming the new trend for the young age buyers as the dual camera setup was one of the major trends last year. Apple, Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, Micromax, Vivo have all already put thin bezels on their smartphone to offer a slim device with gigantic display. However, the freshly launched Oppo R11s and Oppo R11s Plus are the upgraded variants and also the successors of the company’s previous R11 and R11 Plus smartphones, which were launched in China in the month of June this year.

The main highlights of the Oppo R11s and Oppo R11s Plus are their Full HD+ AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system, dual rear-facing camera setup (16MP + 20MP), and an improved 20-megapixel front-facing camera with A.I. Beauty Recognition technology and facial recognition technology. The new AI technology not only promises to capture better selfies, but it also can be used to unlock the smartphone using its facial recognition technology. The A.I. Beauty Recognition technology on the smartphones uses artificial intelligence to recognise skin tone and type, gender and age of all subjects within an image by scanning more than 200 facial recognition spots and learns facial features unique to each subject, regardless of the angle or lighting. The AI technology also analyses environment lighting conditions to beautify a selfie shot. For high-grade biometric security, the front-facing camera scans 128 facial recognition points and takes only 0.08 seconds to unlock the device.

In terms of design, both the smartphones sport a sleek and sophisticated metal unibody design with curved metal edges and full-screen display with minimal bezels on the sides and slim bezels on the top and bottom, giving them an overall premium outlook.  The smartphones also feature a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, that is housed on the back panel of the devices. The volume rockers are placed on the left-hand edge of the devices, while the power/lock key button is situated at the right-hand edge of the smartphones. The horizontally arranged dual rear camera setup is still positioned exactly the top left corner of the rear panel, while the 20MP front-facing camera is fixed on the top left corner of the front panel.
