Cristiano Ronaldo won The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016, beating Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann in the football world’s star studded annual award event ,The Best FIFA Football Awards 2016, held at Zurich. Ronaldo had an outstanding 2016 in which his club, Real Madrid and his country, Portugal win the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Euro 2016 respectively. His club, Real Madrid were also able to win the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2016.

The Award Show was attended by many present football stars and past footballing greats, Diego Maradona, Carles Puyol, Zineine Zidane to name a few, along with the FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2016 award was won by Carli Lloyd for the second year running, winning the award ahead of the five-time best player of the year award winner, Brazilian Marta and German Melanie Behringer.

The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2016 was won by Claudio Ranieri, the man who steered the unfancied Leicester City to the English Premier title last season. The other contestants for the award were Zinedine Zidane, who lead Real Madrid to Champions League title in his first season in-charge of the team, and Fernando Santos, who lead the Portuguese National team to UEFA Euro 2016 title. The Best FIFA Women’s Coach award was won by Neid Silvia as she lead Germany to a gold medal finish at Rio 2016.

The FIFA FIFPro World 11 announced has Manuel Neuer, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, Dani Alves, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Andres Iniesta, Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The FIFA Fair Play award was won by Atletico Nacional, the Colombian club which requested CONMEBOL to award the Copa Sudamericana 2016 to Chapecoense, the club which could not make it to Colombia to face Atletico for the first leg of the Finals because of a tragedic plane crash in which the entire team was travelling.

The Puskás Award for the best goal of the season was won by Malaysian Mohd Faiz Subri for his outstanding free-kick for Penang against Pahang in the Malaysian Super League.

The FIFA Award for an Outstanding Career was given to the Brazilian futsal legend Falcao.

The FIFA Fan Award was won jointly by Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool supporters. They had been nominated for the award for singing together their similar club anthems, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” while keeping aside their sporting rivalry during their Europa League meeting in April last year .

The award show was held in the Swiss city of Zurich, home of FIFA and was hosted by American actress Eva Longoria and German tv host Marco Schreyl.
