A still from the teaser trailer

The Lord of the Rings trilogy director, Peter Jackson, is back again! But not with his own movie, but as a producer for fiction writer Philip Reeve’s bestselling sci-fi adventure series’s first big-screen adaptation, motion picture titled as, Mortal Engines.

And just recently, few hours ago, Universal Pictures (its distributing studio), have released the first teaser trailer for the movie!

The movie will show the story of a dystopian, post-apocalyptic, steampunk world, where cities run on wheels and steam, and use the remaining resources on planet Earth, for their survival!

The movie stars a new Australian actress Leila George D’Onofrio, as Katherine Valentine, the protagonist of the story and daughter of Thaddeus Valentine (Head of the Guild of Historians), who will be played by actor Hugo Weaving, along with some other fine actors.

Mortal Engines is directed by Academy Award winning visual effects supervisor, Christian Rivers (who won Best Visual Effects Oscar for 2005 movie King Kong, back in 2006, and which was directed by Peter Jackson himself).

Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:

Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.

Distributed by Universal Pictures, Mortal Engines is scheduled to be released on December 14th, 2018.
