British premium motorcycle maker Triumph on Monday launched the 2017 model of the Street Triple S superbike in the Indian two-wheeler market at a price tag of Rs. 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Triumph Motorcycles unveiled their new Street Triple range in the UK earlier this year in three variants– Triple S, Triple R and the top-end Triple RS. Out of these three, the Indian market gets the entry-level Triple S model only. The other variants will be launched at a later date. The all-new Triumph Street Triple S comes packed with a wide range of new features and performance upgrades including all-new 765 engine series (derived from Triumph’s flagship Daytona Sports bike), evolved design, updated suspension, switchable traction control, DRL headlights, various riding modes and a lighter chassis. The company has already started bookings for the Triumph Street Triple S trim and deliveries from its 14 authorised dealers are expected to begin from the next week.
Commenting on the launch, Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India said, ” Our ambition was to deliver a state of the art roadster that is both addictive everyday fun and a full track weapon but with its own distinctive attitude. The Triumph Streer Triple S delivers n these while demonstrating unique levels of power, performance, technology and suspension.”
Design wise, the naked and muscular 2017 Street Triple gets an evolved design from its predecessor. The new Street Triple S sports a new gullwind rear swingarm and an upgraded Showa monoshock suspension, which claims to deliver an improved stability and overall handling at higher speeds. The motorcycle gets a sharper rear end along with some cosmetic changes such as a new engine cover, radiator guards and mudguards. The new Street Triple 765 S also comes equipped with a wide handlebar, LCD instrument cluster, a beefy fuel tank (17.4 liters), 5-spoke strong alloy wheels, two bug eye-shaped headlamps with integrated DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), fancy looking indicators and an LED tail lamp as well.
Talking about its mechanical department, the new Triumph Street Triple S is powered by a 765 cc liquid-cooled, in-line three-cylinder engine that generates 113bhp of peak power at 11,250 rpm and 73 Nm of maximum torque at 10,421 rpm and is also mated to a 6-speed transmission. The company claims that the new engine comes with more than 80 new parts, including an increased bore and stroke, new cams, pistons and Nikasil plated aluminium barrels for better heat dissipation.
In terms of safety, the Street Triple S comes with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) technology as standard in India and switchable traction control with two riding modes (Road and Rain). The suspension setup on the Triumph Street Triple S includes a fully adjustable Showa 41 mm upside down forks in the front and Showa reservoir mono shocks at the rear. For braking performance, the 2017 Triumph Street Triple 765 S gets dual front 310mm floating discs with Nissin 2-piston calipers brake and a single rear 220mm disc with mono piston Brembo caliper brake.
The 2017 Street Triple S model is currently made available in India in two body colour options – Diablo Red and Phantom Black (Metallic). In the Indian two-wheeler market, the Triumph Street Triple 765 S will compete with the Ducati Monster 821, Kawasaki Z900 and newly launched Aprilia Shiver 900 in its segment.
