The rising pollution levels in New Delhi has led to closed schools and cricket matches being called off. In an effort to raise awareness about the issue, test cricket captain Virat Kohli sent out a few tweets on the pollution crisis.

Delhi’s pollution levels took a drastic turn after Diwali on Oct. 30. Poor air quality has been attributed to low wind speed and high humidity, which has blocked dispersion of pollutants.

Kohli posted a video on his twitter account in which he mentioned: “Schools are getting closed, events are being called off and it’s a situation that only gets worse with each day.”

Kohli also published a series of tweets on the alarming subject prior his video tweet. In the video tweet he says “If we don’t act, there is going to be massive problems in the future,”

He also mentioned “Kids are gonna suffer with diseases. So look after your families, look after your children whose future really depends on how we act in the current situation and make it better for them. “

“It is my humble request to be aware and act in a responsible manner. Please don’t do things that are harming the environment even more. Let’s get together, Delhiites, and make a difference, because it’s very important.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced a slew of measures, including closure of schools till Wednesday, banning of all construction works for five days and directing short term closure of a power plant, cloud-seeding to bring in artificial rains over the city and also washing down of the streets and vacuum cleaning.
