This weekend, we woke up to the sweetest news we could’ve ever imagined. Bollywood’s blockbuster director-producer Karan Johar has taken a new leap in life. Karan Johar is now a single parent to lovely twins born out of surrogacy. Karan Johar took to social media to confirm this news and tweeted, “I’m ecstatic to share with you all the two most wonderful additions to my life, my children and lifeline; Roohi and Yash. I feel enormously blessed to be a parent to these pieces of my heart.” It is said that the children were born in February this year at Mumbai’s Masrani Hospital and Mr. Johar is eternally grateful to the surrogate for fullfilling his lifelong dream of bringing his wonderful children in the world and providing them with care and warmth.
Karan’s best friend Shah Rukh Khan’s third child AbRam was delivered by a surrogate in the same hospital. The BMC executive health officer Dr. Padmaja Keskar said that the birth registration of the newly borns was done on Friday. Karan seems to have taken queue from actor Tusshar Kapoor who had announced the birth of his son Laksshya in 2016 through surrogacy.
The 44-year old director said that this was an emotional decision to take and he has considered all his responsibilities in order to ensure that his children receive unconditional love and attention from him. Although Karan has delivered some of Bollywood’s record breaking hits like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai‘ and ‘Kal Ho Na Ho‘, the filmmaker believes that his work, travel and social commitments will have to take a backseat now. Karan stated, “I have the most supportive and caring mother who will be an internal part in the up-bringing of her grandchildren and ofcourse, friends who are family.”
Very soon after Mr. Johar announced the birth of his children, Bollywood beamed with joy and tweeted to express their elation.
Actress Alia Bhatt stated that she was bursting with joy as finally she had a younger brother and sister. Actor Varun Dhawan congratulated Karan and he couldn’t wait to meet the munchkins. Karan’s best friend director Farah Khan also took to twitter and stated, “Glad you took my advice seriously @karanjohar best thing to happen to you.”
Karan’s friend designer Manish Malhotra also congratulated him on Instagram.

Karan had expressed his wish of being a parent in his recently released autobiography titled “The Unsuitable Boy”. “I don’t know what I’m going to do about it but I feel like I would like to be a parent. I do feel the need because I have plenty of love to offer and I’d like to take it forward.”
Karan can currently be seen as the judge of the singing reality show ‘Dil Hai Hindustani‘ which airs on StarPlus. Karan’s Dharma Productions is also set to release ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania‘ starring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. We wish Karan all the best on his new innings in life.
