South Korean tech giant Samsung had launched their flagship smartphones Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at the end of April in India, detailing a May 5 release date. After almost two weeks of long wait, now the company is finally set to make Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones available for purchase in Indian market from Friday. Samsung had first unveiled the two smartphones at a special event in New York on March 29, 2017.
The two Galaxy S flagship smartphones are available to buy via Samsung India E-Store, e-commerce website -Flipkart and also few select offline retailers. The Galaxy S8 is priced at Rs 57,900 and comes in Maple Gold and Midnight Black colour variants, while Galaxy S8+ is priced at Rs 64,900 and comes in Maple Gold, Midnight Black and Coral Blue colour variants. The Indian variants of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ feature dual-SIM functionality in it.
Samsung has also announced a launch offer for Reliance Jio users. The Reliance Jio “Double Data offer” that provides 56GB of 4G data along with free calls and SMS per month at a price of just Rs. 309, up to 8 months. Like other countries, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones will come bundled with AKG earphones in the box. The new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones sport the company’s latest Infinity Display design with larger display packed into a smaller frame. The handsets also feature a metal and glass design like its predecessors.

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are mostly similar smartphones apart from its battery capacity, dimensions, and screen size of the Infinity Display. The Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch Quad HD (1440×2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display, while the Galaxy S8+ sports a 6.2-inch display with Quad HD Super AMOLED display. Both the displays are certified by the UHD Alliance as Mobile HDR Premium. Both the handsets boast a dual-edge curved display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, IP68 dust and water resistant technology.
The Indian variant of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ comes with an Octa-Core Exynos 8895 precessor that bears a quad-core unit clocked at 2.35GHz and another quad-core unit clocked at 1.9GHz. In terms of memory, both the smartphones come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card.
In terms of photography, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones are equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Dual Pixel technology, optical image stabilisation and an f/1.7 aperture. On the front, the two smartphones sport an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with smart autofocus and an f/1.7 aperture.
On the connectivity front, both the devices support a hybrid dual-SIM configuration. Connectivity options on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ also include 4G voLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS, NFC, GLONASS and a USB Type-C for superfast data transfer and charging. Sensors on board include an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, heart rate sensor, barometer and magnetometer. Both the smartphones support Samsung Pay and MST connectivity and come with fingerprint scanner, iris scanner and facial recognition.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ support fast charging as well as wireless charging. The smaller sibling, Galaxy S8 is fuelled by a 3000mAh battery, while the elder brother, Galaxy S8+ boasts a 3500mAh battery. Apart from these specs, the smartphones also feature a dedicated button for the company’s Bixby personal AI assistant (Bixby AI assistant doesn’t support voice commands function at the time of launch). The Samsung Galaxy S8 measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8.0 mm and weighs 155g, while the Galaxy S8+ measures 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1 mm and 173g.
