After a series of many speculations and spy shots, Indian two-wheeler manufacturing company Bajaj Auto on Friday updated its Pulsar-series bike portfolio with the launch of an another naked streetfighter, dubbed as the “Bajaj Pulsar NS160” in the Indian two-wheeler market. Priced at Rs. 78,368 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the new Bajaj Pulsar NS160 has already started its journey to the authorised Bajaj dealerships in India and it will be seen on the street from July 1 (2017) in Passion Red, Glossy Pewter Grey and Saffire Blue colour variants. The new generation Pulsar NS160 packs the perfect blend of ‘premium quality’, ‘raw power’, ‘aggressive styling’ and ‘superior performance’ which are all associated with the Bajaj Auto and Pulsar brands.
In terms of design, the new Bajaj Pulsar NS160 borrows its styling and some features from its younger sibling, the Pulsar NS200, which was launched in India earlier of this year. Except for its revised 160 graphics, the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 looks very identical to the Pulsar NS200, with respect to design. The new naked sports bike comes with the same perimeter frame, split seats, front telescopic forks with anti-friction bush, rear gas-charged monoshock suspension setup, headlight, wide handlebar, instrument cluster, a beefy fuel tank (12-litres), which are all we have seen on the current generation Pulsar NS200.
The key difference between the Pulsar NS160 and the Pulsar NS200 is the smaller 240mm front disc brake (NS200 has a 280mm disc), and a 130mm rear drum brake (NS200 has a 230mm disc brake). The new Pulsar NS160 gets 17-inch alloy wheels and are shod with an 80/100 tyre at the front and an 110/80 section rear tyre. Talking about its dimension, the new naked roadster measures 2012 x 803.5 x 1060 mm (Length X Width X Height) and weighs about 10kg lighter than the Pulsar NS200 (152 kg). The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 offers a ground clearance of 176 mm and has a 1,363mm wheelbase.
In terms of power, the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 is powered by an all-new oil-cooled 160.3cc, 4-valve, DTS-i engine that generates 15.3 bhp of peak power at 8500 rpm and 14.6 Nm of peak torque at 6500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed transmission which sends power to the rear wheel. The new 160cc naked sports bike also gets the BS-IV engine that reduces emission level which is approved by the Indian government.
In the Indian lucrative market, the new Pulsar NS160 will compete against the Honda CB Hornet 160R, Yamaha FZ-S v2.0, TVS Apache RTR 160, and the Suzuki Gixxer.
