German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz is all set to expand its luxury SUV (sport utility vehicle) portfolio with the launch of a new performance AMG product- Mercedes AMG GLC 43 Coupe in the Indian auto market on July 21 (Friday), 2017. As a reminder, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October last year. The Mercedes-AMG GLC-43 Coupe will be the first member of Mercedes-Benz’s SUV portfolio to come with a coupe-styled SUV chassis. As for pricing, the other variants of the GLC-class SUVs are priced between Rs 53-55 lakh, but this being an AMG-powered SUV, we can expect the Mercedes AMG GLC 43 Coupe is likely to be priced in India at Rs. 80-85 lakh (all prices are mentioned ex-showroom, post-GST). In the Indian market, the vehicle will be imported from the company’s Germany manufacturing plant via the CBU (completely built unit) route.
Engine & Power
Like all the AMG-powered products that carry the “43” badge, the Mercedes-AMG GLC-43 4MATIC Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 BITURBO engine that generates 362bhp of peak power against the peak torque of 520 Nm. The twin-turbocharged engine is mated to an improved 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels via 4MATIC all-wheel drive (AWD) system as standard. As we mentioned, the vehicle comes with a permanent AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system that is equipped with a discrete transfer case: in the interests of higher agility, the torque has a rear-biased split of 31:69 between the front and rear axle. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 offers five driving modes including Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual, each subtly changing the speed-sensitive steering and the characteristics of the power delivery. The powerful Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 needs only 4.9 seconds to reach 100kmph from engine start and has an electronically restricted top speed of 250km per hour.
Exterior & Interior Features
Talking about its exterior design, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe looks more aggressive than the standard version. The GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe comes equipped with LED headlamps with sharper Daytime running lights (DRLs), diamond radiator grille with chrome pins, sporty air intakes on the front bumper, a chrome front splitter, glossy black and chrome accents all around, 19-inch AMG Sport line alloy wheels as standard and 21-inch AMG alloy wheels as an optional. At the rear, the GLC 43 coupe features LED tail lamps, quad chrome-plated exhaust pipes and a sharp spoiler lip. The GLC 43 AMG Coupe also gets a dedicated sports suspension system with Air Body Control, adjustable dampers as standard, as well as adjustable ride height.
Inside the cabin, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe houses black MB-Tex and microfiber upholstery with red stitching, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, 7.0-inch COMMAND infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, climate control, and much more.
Based on the GLC SUV, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe is positioned between the standard GLC Coupe and the powerful 63 AMG spec. Once launched in the Indian market, the top-spec variant of the GLC43 AMG Coupe will compete against the BMW X5 M40i.
