After gaining huge success of the Redmi 4, now it seems like the Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is expected to launch the successor of its best-selling Redmi 4, which is rumoured to be called the “Redmi 5” in China pretty soon. Leaks and rumours around the Xiaomi’s next affordable smartphone have been taking place, and now the Redmi 4 with specs has been found listed on a Chinese micro-blogging platform called Weibo, which shows the smartphone will come with a host of improvements in both hardware and software specs. Some alleged specifications of the Redmi 5 also have been spotted online on Weibo.
However, there are many leaks and rumours about the Redmi 5 from the last couple of days. Redmi 5 has been subjected to multiple leaks ahead of its official debut which does reveal a gist of all the specifications and features about the upcoming Xiaomi device. Some people say the new device could be the Redmi 5, other people say it might be the successor of Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A, as the multiple rumours have also been leaked about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A. Recently, a red coloured retail box has surfaced online which shows an alleged product name, Note 5A written on the box in big letters and a Mi logo situated at the right corner of the box.
However, If the rumours and leaked information are to be believed, the Redmi 5 would see a significant overhaul in terms of specifications and arrive with a host of improvements. The main highlights of the device will be its Android 7.1.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9.0 operating system (yet to be announced), an improved 16-megapixel rear camera and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging support.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 rumoured Specifications and Features:
As per Weibo listing, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will have a 5-inch full-HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass coating on top of the display. The device is expected to be powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 508 image processing unit (GPU). There is also a possibility that the device may draw its power from 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor. In terms of memory, the Redmi 5 is supposed to come in four variants based on their RAM and internal storage capacity and configuration: 3GB RAM with 16GB native storage, 3GB of RAM with 32GB native storage, 4GB RAM with 32GB native storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB native storage. All of these internal memory storages can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. On the software front, the Redmi 5 will run company’s MIUI 9.0 custom UI skin (yet to be announced), based on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system.
In terms of photography, the Redmi 5 is expected to feature an improved 16-megapixel rear camera setup with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and dual-tone LED Flash. On the front, it will sport a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for capturing selfies and making video calls. The dual-sim based Redmi 5 will also sport with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, located just middle of the back panel of the smartphone.
In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will support dual-SIM dual standby using the hybrid SIM configuration (Micro-SIM + Nano-SIM/microSD) slot. That means you can either use this as a dual-SIM phone without memory card option or single-SIM phone with memory card option. Other connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, IR Blaster, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will come loaded with a 3,680mAh non-removable battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology support for fast-charging.
As for pricing, the Snapdragon 625 SoC-powered Xiaomi Redmi 5 with 3GB RAM and 16GB ROM is tipped to retail at CNY 859 (approximately Rs. 8,150), and CNY 1039 (approximately Rs. 9,850). The Snapdragon 630 SoC-powered Redmi 5 with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM is rumoured to start at CNY 1099 (approximately Rs. 10,400), the 4GB RAM with 32GB ROM variant is said to be priced at CNY 1199 (approximately Rs. 11,450) and for top-spec variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, it will cost you CNY 1299 (approximately Rs. 12,300).
