When Director Matt Reeves was chosen as the new Batman director, earlier this year, majority of people knew and had this feeling that the future reboot Dark Knight film has gone into safe hands. Guess what, it came out to be just true, with War for the Planet of the Apes, now finally hitting the screens. The third and last movie in the Apes trilogy is here, for most of the good things, it consists of.
This is the last battle and Caesar (Andy Serkis) is ready to end it-once and for all-against the humans. He, with his rest of the ‘Apes Army’, riding on the horseback (an iconic scene which seems so classic), is heading towards a prison where the Colonel (Woody Harrelson) has captivated the remaining apes. Caesar has to avenge it and win this last battle with all his instincts.

There is just the kind of continuation that a successor needs after its preceding blockbusters in a series. Again, Matt Reeves has ensured that the realism of Apes is seen clearly on the screen and for that the work done, is commendable, with all the CGI magic-rendering some exceptional scenes out there. But above all these things, the soul of the story has remained steady, with the ‘War’.
The cast is fine with whatever role given to any of the characters. Interestingly, the Apes outshine the human characters here! Such is the clarity of motion-capture effects that the computer-generated Apes seem so real as if they are having their own tale going on, in their own world. Cinematographer Michael Seresin has crafted the scenes with utmost care and some brilliant angles. The added member in the face of child actor Amiah Miller is also good at her part, while Woody Harrelson’s Colonel makes for a good match against Caesar. The story is simple-Apes have grown smarter and kind, humans are cruel than ever. What a turnaround!
