After launching the Street Triple S in India last month, British premium two-wheeler maker Triumph Motorcycles on Tuesday launched the 2017 model of its full-size adventure tourer, “Tiger Explorer 1200 XCx” in the Indian two-wheeler market at a price tag of Rs. 18.75 lakh (Ex-showroom, India). Triumph Motorcycles unveiled their Tiger Explorer globally in eight variants including the road-biased XR and off-road biased XC range, namely XR, XRx Low, XRx, XRt, XC, XCx, XCx Low and the XCa. Out of these eight models, the Indian market gets the Tiger Explorer XCx variant only. The new Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 XCx comes packed with a wide range of new features and performance upgrades including an updated Triumph’s signature 1,215 cc triple-cylinder Euro-IV compliant engine, evolved design, updated suspension, new instrument cluster, switchable traction control, IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), various riding modes and a lighter chassis.

In the Indian market, the 2017 Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx will be sold as CBU (completely built unit) and will be available in three body colour options including Crystal While, Jet Black and Lucerne Blue. If you are planning to buy one of this super adventure tourer, please visit at your nearest Triumph showroom as soon as possible because the company has allocated only 20 units of the new Tiger Explorer 1200 XCx for the Indian market.

Design wise, the Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx gets subtle changes in design and is sharper than the outgoing model. The bike also sports a new instrument cluster with a large analogue rev-counter as well as an electrically adjustable windscreen. The off-road biased Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx continues to run on durable wire spoked 19-inch wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear. Other features on the bike include a wide handle bar, beefy fuel tank, 12V power sockets, a 5V under seat USB socket, heated grips and self-cancelling indicators.

Talking about its mechanical department, the 2017 Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx is powered by a 1,215 cc, in-line three-cylinder, Euro-IV/BS-IV compliant motor that generates 137 bhp of peak power at 9,300 rpm and 123 Nm of maximum torque at 6,200 rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission that send power to the rear wheel. The motorcycle comes equipped with a ride-by-wire throttle and multiple riding modes — Road, Rain and Off-Road.

Suspension duties are handled by an adjustable 48 mm KYB inverted upside down forks with 190 mm of travel and an automatic preload adjustable KYB monoshock setup with 193mm travel at the rear. The bike also features electronically controlled Semi-Active Suspension (SAS) System from WP, meaning it automatically adjust itself depending upon the terrain. Apart from this, it also gets a hydraulic torque assist clutch to reduce clutch effort.

In terms of safety, the 2017 Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx comes engineered with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) technology as standard in India and switchable traction control, cruise control with a new inertial measurement unit (IMU). The inertial measurement unit (IMU) calculates the bike’s lean angle to deliver optimum traction and braking power. Braking duties are performed by the dual front 305mm floating discs with Brembo monoblock 4-piston radial calipers brake and a single rear 282mm disc with 2-piston Brembo caliper brake.

In the Indian market, the new Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx adventure tourer will compete against the likes of Ducati Multistrada 1200S and the BMW R1200GS.
