After a series of many leaks and rumours, Chinese smartphone maker Meizu on Wednesday officially announced its latest two flagship smartphones, the Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus in the Chinese tech market. The Meizu Pro 7 comes in two variants based on its processing units, RAM and ROM configuration– Meizu Pro 7 with Helio P25 SoC, 4GB RAM & 64GB internal storage, and the Meizu Pro 7 with Helio X30 SoC, 4GB RAM & 128GB internal storage variant. On the other hand, the Meizu Pro 7 Plus also comes in two variants based on its native storage capacity– Meizu Pro 7 Plus with 6GB RAM & 64GB internal storage, and Meizu Pro 7 Plus with 6GB RAM & 128GB internal storage. The main highlights of the Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus are their 1.9-inch secondary Super AMOLED display at the rear, dual primary camera setup (12MP + 12MP), 16MP front-facing camera and 5V/5A mCharge 4.0 fast charging technology support.
Price and Availability:
As for pricing, The Meizu Pro 7 with Helio P25 SoC, 4GB RAM & 64GB internal storage variant is priced at CNY 2,880 (approximately Rs. 27,400 or $426), the Meizu Pro 7 with Helio X30 SoC, 4GB RAM & 128GB internal storage variant has been launched in China with a price tag of CNY 3,380 (approximately Rs. 32,200 or $500), the Meizu Pro 7 Plus with 6GB RAM & 64GB internal storage variant costs CNY 3,580 (approximately Rs. 34,100 or $530), while for the Meizu Pro 7 Plus top-end variant with 6GB RAM & 128GB internal storage, it will cost you CNY 4,080 (approximately Rs. 38,850 or $604). All the aforementioned variants/models will be made available for purchase in China starting August 5, 2017 (Saturday) via online platforms in Black, Silver, Gold and Red colour options.
Design:
In terms of design, both the Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus smartphones sport a metal unibody design and a sleek back finish with curved metal edges, meaning that the devices come with a relatively premium build quality. Both the smartphones feature capacitive navigation buttons and a front-mounted fingerprint sensor, that is housed underneath a capsule-sized physical Home Button of the devices. Both the smartphones come fitted with a 1.9-inch secondary Super AMOLED (307 ppi) display at the rear. The secondary display offers a quick way to show notifications, calls, messages, email alerts including upcoming events, weather forecasts or customised notifications. Apart from this, the secondary display also allows you to see yourself on the screen while trying to capture images from the rear camera.
The power-key button and volume up-down keys are all placed on the right-hand edge of the devices and a 3.5mm audio jack is placed on the very bottom edge of the phone. The rear camera lenses are still positioned exactly the top left corner and one front-facing camera is fixed on the top left corner of the front panel. The speaker grilles are seen at the bottom edge of the handsets along with a USB Type-C charging port sitting in the middle.
Meizu Pro 7 Features and Specifications:
Starting with the smaller version, the new Meizu Pro 7 comes equipped with a 5.5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a scratch resistance curved glass coating on top. On the other side, the smartphone sports a 1.9-inch secondary Super AMOLED (307 ppi) display with a screen resolution of 240×536 pixels. As we mentioned earlier, the smartphone comes in two different versions, based on their processing unit configurations: one variant with a 2.5GHz MediaTek Helio P25 octa-core processor clubbed with Mali-T880 GPU, 4GB of RAM, & 64GB of native storage and the other with 2.6GHz MediaTek Helio X30 deca-core 10nm processor paired with PowerVR 7XTP-MP4 GPU, 4GB of RAM, & 128GB of native storage. Talking about its software fronts, the Meizu Pro 7 runs on Google’s latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with company’s proprietary Flyme 6.0 custom UI skin running on top.
In terms of photography, the Meizu Pro 7 houses a dual rear camera setup that comes combined with a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 12-megapixel Monochrome sensor. The rear camera features include Sony IMX386 sensors, an f/2.0 aperture, 1.25 µm pixel size, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), dual-tone LED flash. On the front, the smartphone features a 16-megapixel front-facing shooter with an f/2.0 aperture for capturing selfies and making video calls.
On the connectivity front, the Meizu Pro 7 offers various connectivity options including dual-SIM dual standby, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4/5.0 GHz), Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, USB OTG, a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB Type-C port for superfast charging and data transfer. Sensors on the device include a Proximity sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Accelerometer, Fingerprint (front-mounted), Gyroscope and E-compass sensor. On the battery front, the Meizu Pro 7 packs a decent 3,000mAh battery with 5V/5A mCharge 4.0 fast charging technology support. Dimensionally, the device measures 147.62 x 70.72 x 7.3 mm and weights around 163 grams.
Meizu Pro 7 Plus Features and Specifications:
Moving on the bigger version, the new Meizu Pro 7 Plus flaunts a gorgeous 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a scratch resistance curved glass coating on top of the display. AMOLED display offers more sharp and deep colours than the conventional LED screens. The Meizu Pro 7 Plus also comes equipped with a 1.9-inch secondary Super AMOLED (307 ppi) display on the back that shows notifications for calls, messages and more. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 2.6GHz MediaTek Helio X30 deca-core processor with PowerVR 7XTP-MP4 image processing unit to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the Meizu Pro 7 Plus is backed up by a 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB / 128GB of internal storage.
