Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xioami has recently launched its latest mid-range Mi 5X smartphone at an event in Beijing, China along with MIUI 9 custom ROM. Alongside, the company has also announced a new Mercury Silver Edition of its premium Mi 6 smartphone with refreshed outlook and some smart features. To recall, Xiaomi first unveiled the Mi 6 premium smartphone in April this year in two different colour variants – Blue and Silver. The Mi 6 Blue variant has gone on sale in various markets, while Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition never went on sale due to some production issues. At the time of launch, the company also promised that they would bring this phone to the market in a few days.
Almost three months after launch, Xiaomi has finally made its decision that the Xiaomi Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition (aka MirrorBack Edition) will be going on its debut sale in China on August 3 (Thursday). As for pricing, the Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition will be made available for purchase in China exclusively via company’s official China website at a price tag of CNY 3,999 (approximately Rs. 38,000), which is CNY 1,000 (approx. Rs. 9,000) more than the company’s recently launched Mi 6 Ceramic Edition. If you are planning to buy this luxury Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition, then you keep yourself ready to grab the rush sale because the company has allocated only 100 units of the new “MirrorBack Edition” for its home market, China.
Talking about its main USP, the Xiaomi Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition comes with a stainless steel chassis with a stunning ultra-reflective mirror finish, giving it an overall premium and gorgeous outlook. The smartphone’s super glossy chrome finished back reflects like a piece of mirror and offers a different feel from the other variants. The body of the Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition is electroplated using a special electroplating process which is done in a vacuum chamber. However, the Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition or the MirrorBack Edition packs the perfect blend of glass and metal design, premium build quality, style, and luxuriousness which are all associated with the Xiaomi and Mi brand. Apart from its paint job, the rest specifications and features are same to same as we have seen on the other existing Mi 6 variants.
Technically speaking, like the standard model Xiaomi Mi 6, the Mercury Silver Edition flaunts a 5.15-inch full-HD display with screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It has an integrated blue light filter to adjust blue light emission to reduce eye strain. The device also comes equipped with a four-sided 3D curved glass design on the front and back with high gloss stainless steel frame in between. Under the hood, the Mi 6 is powered by a 2.45GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor clubbed with Adreno 540 image processing unit to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition is backed up by 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On the software fronts, it runs company’s proprietary MIUI 8 custom UI skin, based on Google’s latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system. The Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition is also a splash-resistant phone and sports a fingerprint scanner for biometric security, which embedded just under the display glass cover.
In terms of optics, Xioami Mi 6 Silver Edition houses a dual-rear camera setup that comes combine with two 12-megapixel sensors. One camera sports a 12-megapixel sensor with wide angle lens and 4-axis Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), while another camera comes with a 12-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens for 2x lossless zoom. The rear camera is also capable of shooting videos in 4K (2160p) resolution. On the front, the handset features an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter for capturing selfies and making video calls.
On the connectivity front, the Xioami Mi 6 new edition also offers 2.2 dual WiFi technology which allows for better and wider connectivity. Apart from this, the dual-SIM smartphone also offers various connectivity options including with 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz/5GHz), Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS/A-GPS, Stereo speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB-Type C port for superfast charging and data transfer. Sensors on the device include Fingerprint (front-mounted), Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, and Proximity sensor. On the battery front, the Mi 6 comes packed with a decent non-removable 3,350mAh Li-Po battery which is paired with MIUI optimisations to provide long battery life.
