After launching the 5-Series business luxury sedan in the Indian auto market, German luxury car manufacturer BMW on Thursday expanded its top-selling 3-Series sedan range with the launch of a new diesel variant, called the “BMW 320d Edition Sport” in the Indian four-wheeler market. With the new BMW Edition Sport trim, the luxury sedan series is now available in five trims: BMW 320d Prestige, BMW 320d Edition Sport, BMW 320d Sport Line, BMW 320d Luxury Line and BMW 320d M Sport variant. The new BMW 320d Edition Sport has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 38.60 lakh (Ex-showroom, Pan-India) and at this price point, the Edition Sport trim is positioned between the Prestige and both Sport Line and Luxury Line trim.
The bookings for the Edition Sport trim are now already open, prospective customers can make bookings for the new BMW 320d Edition Sport at the nearest BMW authorised dealerships across the country. The BMW 320d Edition Sport sedan will be locally manufactured in India at the BMW’s local production facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The BMW 320d Edition Sport trim will be available in three colour choice options: Alpine White as non-metallic colour and Black Sapphire and Mediterranean Blue as metallic colour. The new variant of the BMW 3-Series remains unchanged mechanically but features a few cosmetic changes on the outside and inside the cabin to differentiate the new model from other variants.

Talking about its mechanical department, the BMW 320d Edition Sport is powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that generates 188bhp of peak power @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of peak torque @ 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. The TwinTurbo engine comes mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The BMW 320d Edition Sport luxury sedan needs only 7.2 seconds to reach 100kmph from engine start and has an electronically restricted top speed of 250km per hour. BMW claims that the engine offers an impressive fuel efficiency of 22.69 kmpl. The BMW 320d Edition Sport trim offers four driving modes including Comfort, ECO PRO, Sport, and Sport+, each subtly changing the speed-sensitive steering and the characteristics of the power delivery. Other features on the car include auto start-stop, brake-energy regeneration, electronic power steering and 50:50 weight distribution.
On the exterior, the BMW 320d Edition Sport receives adaptive LED headlamps, traditional twin-kidney grille finished in high-gloss black, an electric sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED wrap-around tail lamps and dual exhaust pipe. Inside the cabin, the vehicle gets BMW ConnectedDrive infotainment system as standard that features iDrive controller and a 6.5-inch colour display with CD drive, BMW Apps, Bluetooth and USB/AUX IN connectivity and a rear view camera along with Park Distance Control (PDC). The cabin now comes with a premium quality interior offered in a range of fine upholstery combinations including Sensatec Black & Red highlight, Black and Sensatec Veneto Beige, Veneto Beige. Apart from this, the BMW 320d Edition Sport also gets sports seats, chrome garnish on the centre console, red contrast stitching on the sports steering wheel, gear shift paddles and a 205-watt, 9-speaker Hi-Fi music system.
In terms of safety, the BMW 320d Edition Sport sedan offers various safety features that include six air bags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with brake assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and Cornering Brake Control (CBC). Besides this, the vehicle also offers Side-impact Protection, ISOFIX child seat mounting, Runflat tyres (RFT) with reinforced sidewalls, emergency spare wheel, electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor.
In the Indian lucrative market, the new BMW 320d Edition Sport premium sedan will compete against the likes of Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Volvo S60 and Jaguar XE.
