After a series of many leaks and rumours, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Monday officially announced the launch of its latest budget-oriented smartphone, called the “Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A” in the Chinese tech market. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A comes in two variants based on its processing units, RAM and internal storage configuration: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A with Snapdragon 425 SoC, 2GB RAM & 16GB internal storage, and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A with Snapdragon 435, 3GB/4GB RAM & 32GB/64GB internal storage. The main highlights of the smartphone are its latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with latest MIUI 9 custom UI skin, 13MP rear camera, 16MP front camera (high-end variant), premium build quality and a dedicated dual Nano-SIM slots with a microSD card slot (Triple tray configuration).

Price and Availability:

As for pricing, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A with Snapdragon 425 SoC, 2GB RAM & 16GB internal storage variant has been launched in China with a price tag of CNY 699 (approximately Rs. 6,700), the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A with Snapdragon 435 SoC, 3GB RAM & 32GB internal storage variant is priced at CNY 899 (approximately Rs. 8,650), while for the top-end variant with Snapdragon 435 SoC, 4GB RAM & 64GB internal storage, you have to pay CNY 1,199 (approximately Rs. 11,524). All these aforementioned variants or models will be made available for purchase in China starting from tomorrow, August 22 (Tuesday) via company’s online retail store Mi.com and Chinese e-commerce website JD.com in Champagne Gold, Rose Gold and Platinum Silver colour variants.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Specifications and Features:

In terms of specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A comes equipped with a 5.5-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass coating on top of the display. The display offers a 450 nits brightness and an impressive 70% of NTSC colour gamut. As we mentioned earlier, the smartphone comes in two different versions, based on its processing unit configurations: one variant comes with a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor with Adreno 308 GPU, while the other variant is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor with Adreno 505 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the smartphone is backed up by a 2GB/3GB/4GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software fronts, the Redmi Note 5A runs company’s proprietary MIUI 9 custom UI skin, based on Google’s latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system. The high-end variant of the Redmi Note 5A also features a rear-mounted fingerprint recognition button for biometric security.

In terms of photography, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with an f/2.2 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and an LED flash module. On the front, the Redmi Note 5A standard variant sports a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture, while the Redmi Note 5A high-end comes with a 16MP front-facing shooter with an f/2.0 aperture, 76.4-degree wide-angle lens, OmniVision sensor and an LED flash module for capturing bright selfies and making video calls even in low-light conditions.

In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is a dual-SIM smartphone that accepts two Nano SIM cards. Apart from this, the smartphone also offers various connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, USB OTG, IR Blaster, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB port for charging and data transfer. On the front, the Redmi Note 5A comes loaded with a 3,080mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 35 hours of talk time and up to 11 days of standby time. Sensors on the smartphone include an Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Fingerprint (rear-mounted) (top-end variant), Gyroscope, Infrared sensor, and E-compass sensor. Dimensionally, the base model of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A measures 153× 76.2 × 7.5 mm and weighs 150 grams, while the top-end variant of the Redmi Note 5A measures 153× 76.2 × 7.7 mm and weighs 153 grams.
