After a series of many leaks and revelations, South Korean electronics giant Samsung has officially announced the launch of its latest mid-range smartphone with dual rear camera setup, dubbed as the “Galaxy C8” in the Chinese tech market. Samsung Galaxy C8 is the company’s third smartphone to come with dual rear camera setup, after the company’s latest premium phablet Galaxy Note 8 and recently launched Galaxy J7+. The smartphone also marks its arrival of the dual rear camera setup to the company’s popular Galaxy C lineup. Unfortunately, the pricing details and availability of the Galaxy C8 have not been revealed by the company yet. The new Samsung Galaxy C8 is currently listed on company’s China website and it is expected to go on sale in China pretty soon in Black, Gold and Pink colour options. The Samsung Galaxy C8 comes in two variants based on its RAM configuration and internal storage capacity: Galaxy C8 with 3GB RAM & 32GB native storage and Galaxy C8 with 4GB RAM & 64GB native storage. The key highlights of the smartphone are its 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, 13MP+5MP dual rear camera setup and a decent 3,000mAh battery.
In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy C8 flaunts a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1280 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass coating on top. In terms of power and performance, the device draws its power from a 2.39GHz octa-core (unspecified) processor, which comes coupled with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a micro SD card. Talking about its software front, the Galaxy C8 runs company’s proprietary TouchWiz custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system. For high-grade biometric security, the Galaxy C8 also features facial recognition and a front-mounted fingerprint scanner that is housed underneath a capsule-sized physical Home Button of the device.
In terms of optics, the Samsung Galaxy C8 sports a vertically aligned dual rear camera setup that comes combined with one 13-megapixel RGB sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and one 5-megapixel monochrome sensor with an f/1.9 aperture. The main camera features on the device also include autofocus, an LED flash module and full HD (1080p) video recording support at 30fps. Talking about its selfie camera, the device houses a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/1.9 aperture and a dedicated LED flash unit for capturing bright selfies even in dim light conditions.
On the connectivity front, the Samsung Galaxy C8 supports dual-SIM dual standby using the hybrid SIM configuration (SIM 1 + SIM 2 / Micro SD card) slot. That means you can either use this as a dual-SIM phone without memory card option or single-SIM phone with memory card option. Apart from this, the smartphone also offers various connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS/GLONASS, and a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB port for charging and data transfer. On the battery front, the Galaxy C8 comes packed with a decent 3,000mAh battery that is rated to offer up to 90 hours of standby time. Sensors on the smartphone include an Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, RGB light sensor, Gyroscope, Fingerprint (front-mounted) sensor and Geomagnetic sensor. Dimensionally, the Samsung Galaxy C8 measures 152.4 x 74.7 x 7.9mm and weighs 180 grams.
