‘It’ is scaring away all the competitors out of the park and it’s just a small beginning. The best horror film of the year helmed by Andy Muschietti has now officially conquered the box-office in its opening 3-day weekend! The supernatural-scary adaptation from Stephen King’s novel shattered the past records and took in $123 million-in the US alone! That’s a serious unpredictable result than what was assumed by many trade analysts before the release. Thanks to a wide release across 4,103 domestic locations, which really pushed and powered the earnings.
This is the best domestic debut for a September release since 2015’s Hotel Transylvania 2’s $48.5 million, which is now, even less than half of IT’s collections.
‘IT’ has now also become the third-best domestic opening flick of 2017, being just behind Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. More importantly, ‘It’ also thrashed Marvel’s another blockbuster Spider-Man: Homecoming’s domestic opening total of $117 million!
Another milestone set by ‘It’ was in terms of the biggest opening for a horror/supernatural feature film. It swiftly destroyed Paranormal Activity 3’s weekend opening record of (just) $52.6 million, way back in 2011.
Also being an R-rated film, the Pennywise’s scary outing turned out following only just one movie-Marvel’s Deadpool (another R-rated flick), which also had an unexpected weekend of a huge $132.4 million.
The film distributed by Warner Bros. and New Line, casts Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, the dancing, scary, monster clown while the rest of the cast includes teenage actors Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs and Jackson Robert Scott.
An obvious sequel is now already in works, which will probably reveal more historical aspects of the clown in the Chapter 2.
‘It’ is running more than successfully, in theatres, worldwide.
