After launching the K8 Plus and K8 Note smartphone in India, Chinese PC and tablet manufacturer Lenovo has expanded its “K” series of smartphones portfolio with the launch of a new mid-range smartphone, called the “Lenovo K8” in the Indian tech market. The Lenovo K8 is a new member of the company’s new K8 series that we have seen the recently launched Lenovo K8 Plus and Lenovo K8 Note with dual rear camera setup and now the K8 can be considered as a watered-down version of the Lenovo K8 Plus. Carried a price tag of Rs. 10,499, the new Lenovo K8 is now already made available for purchase in India via all leading mortar and brick stores across the country in Venom Black and Fine gold colour options. The key highlights of the smartphone are its Google’s stock version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS, a high-density 4,000mAh battery, 3GB RAM and a front LED flash module for capturing bright selfies even in low light conditions.
In terms of design, the Lenovo K8 comes engineered with a 5000-series aluminium and polycarbonate body with metal edges, meaning that the device sports a relatively premium build quality. The Lenovo K8 also features three capacitive navigation touch buttons and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is located in the middle of the back panel. The volume up-down keys and the power/lock button are all placed on the right-hand edge of the device and a multi-functional Music Key is placed on the left-hand edge of the handset. The dedicated Music Key on the smartphone allows users to open the music app, and control playback, based on shortcuts. The Lenovo K8 also sports a front LED flash that is placed on the top left corner of the front panel, while the rear panel of the device houses a 13-megapixel camera, LED flash module and a fingerprint recognition button. A 3.5 mm audio socket is placed on the very top edge of the device, while the speaker grilles are seen on the very bottom edge of the device along with a microUSB charging port sitting in the middle.
As far as specifications are concerned, the Lenovo K8 flaunts a 5.2-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 720×1280 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass coating on top of the display. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 2.3GHz MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor, which is clubbed with Mali T880 MP2 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the device is backed up by a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Lenovo K8 runs on Google’s latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.
For photography, the Lenovo K8 features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with PDAF, and an LED flash module. On the front, the smartphone bears an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter with an LED flashlight for capturing bright selfies in low light conditions.
On the connectivity front, the Lenovo K8 supports Dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 820.11 a/b/g/n, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, FM Radio, USB OTG, Dolby Atmos, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a Micro-USB port for charging and data transfer. Sensors on the device include a Proximity sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Accelerometer, Fingerprint (rear-mounted), and a Gyroscope sensor. On the battery front, the Lenovo K8 is backed up by a denser 4,000mAh non-removable battery that is rated to offer up to 1.5 days of usage time. Dimensionally, the handset measures 147.9 x 73.7 x 8.5mm and weighs 165 grams.
