Samsung Galaxy J7 catches fire in the mid-air on a Delhi-Indore Jet Airways flight

Nowadays, smartphones explosion is not a big issue at all, but, if this incident happens between a populated area, then it intimidates people’s mind and creates a lot of chaos. The same thing happened yesterday when a couple with their 18-month old son were flying from Delhi to Indore on a Jet Airways flight.

After the “fire-prone” Galaxy Note 7 debacle last year, a Samsung Galaxy J7 smartphone mysteriously caught fire in the mid-air on a Delhi-Indore bound Jet Airways flight 9W 791, which carried close to 120 passengers onboard, according to a news report by Hindustan Times. Earlier this month, we saw a Samsung Grand Duos model was exploded in a man’s pocket. A CCTV footage of the exploding fiasco has also been released and the incident was reported by Channel News Asia. Now, the South Korean tech giant is again in the news story for something bad as the latest incident has occurred in India in the mid-air last week.

As per the report, a Delhi-Indore bound Jet Airways flight 9W 791 had a Delhi resident passenger named Arpita Dhal, where she carried three smartphones in her handbag including a Samsung Galaxy J7. Just 15 minutes after the flight took off, Arpita noticed the handbag started emitting smoke, and then she had to call the cabin crew members for help. She immediately handed the bag to the flight attendant and after checking, it came to light that among the three smartphones in her bag, the Samsung Galaxy J7 was the source of the smoke. The cabin crew members started using the fire extinguishers to stop the smoke, but surprisingly, the on-board fire-extinguisher within the cabin was not functional. The attendant was forced to use water to put water on the device and kept the Galaxy J7 in a tray of water till the end of their journey. After the situation was under control, the other two smartphones were also kept in the same tray as a precaution. The reason behind the incident is still unknown. The smartphone is under investigation right now.

Commenting on the situation, an official spokesperson from Jet Airways, said, “It was observed on board Jet Airways’ flight 9W 791 Delhi-Indore that smoke was emitting from a guest handbag. Jet Airways crew immediately took charge of the situation, as also all necessary steps as precautionary measure, and as per the prescribed guidelines.”

“I will complain against Jet Airways after I return home. This is a question of safety of passengers in flights. If there is a major fire or blast what will they do when their fire extinguishers don’t work like this,” the Samsung Galaxy J7 owner Arpita Dhal said in a statement to the Hindustan Times.

Samsung India spokesperson responded by saying, “We are in touch with relevant authorities for more information. At Samsung, customer safety is top priority.”
