Disney’s newest animated movie Moana is all set to win the hearts of young and old alike here. The movie portrays the journey of a Polynesian teen to save her island and its people. Her voyage through the treacherous oceans leads to many adventures with demi-god Maui and sidekick chicken Heihei.
Moana’s voice is that of 16-year-old Auli’i Cravalho and Maui is voiced by Dwayne ‘Rock’ Johnson.
The movie raked in $28.4 million at the American box office. It fared quite well overseas too with an earning of $32 million. This is the third hit for Disney Animation in 2016 following Zootopia and Finding Dory.
This film follows Disney’s traditional storytelling of a protagonist going on a self-searching journey. Moana is also the second movie of the Disney princess franchise without any love interest. Apart from grand visuals and amazing effects , this movie has a very subtle yet ever-present statement running throughout ; environment protection. Little Moana ventures out in search of Maui to save her island’s fate and restore Te Fiti’s heart (who resembles Mother Nature).
The movie’s soundtrack is sure to stay. The composers are Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina, who use a mix of English and Tokelauan to create beautiful music. Billboard has ranked the theme song ‘How far I’ll go’ at number five this week.
