James Mangold directed the best R-rated Marvel superhero film, Logan, this year

As we know that it’s almost likely that the deal between Disney and Fox is all but done, at the moment, how much and in what way it will affect the future movies related to Fox, will be crucial to see.

Still some early reactions from those involved previously with Fox movies are filled with concerns for the studio and fate of the films too!

One such face is director James Mangold, the star director of Logan (this year’s best superhero film) who helmed one of the best R-rated superhero films to date for the Fox studio under and for Marvel comics too. Recently, when being asked regarding the ongoing Disney-Fox deal, Mangold presented his views and said that he is concerned for the future Fox movies and how they will be shaped under Disney.

“If they’re actually changing their mandate, if what they’re supposed to do alters, that would be sad to me because it just means less movies,” he told at a post-credit panel discussion.

”I just hope what we end up with is going to be a positive in terms of movies.”

Regarding the thing about R-rated Marvel films which have been delivered under Fox, Mangold told:

“The real thing that happens when you make a movie rated R, behind the scenes, is that the studio has to adjust to the reality that there will be no Happy Meals. There will be no action figures.”

“The entire merchandising, cross-pollinating side of selling the movie to children is dead before you even start. And when that’s dead, it means you’re making a grown-up movie.”

He told the importance of the R-rated Marvel film, Logan itself, that how the reality shown in it impacted the audiences who went to watch it and made it the best X-Men and Marvel superhero movie to equalize with DC’s The Dark Knight (2008)-sitting with 93% on Rotten Tomatoes!

“We’ve now so co-opted this idea that these movies are not really stories, but are merchandise entitie. You can’t kill the characters because they’re worth so much effing money.”
