Arsenal continued their great scoring form as they demolished Swansea City 4-0 away from home at the Liberty Stadium. This win takes Arsenal to third in the table for the time being while Swansea City sink to the bottom of the table.
Arsenal’s big boys, Mesut Ozil and Petr Cech started the game for Arsenal after short-term injury layoffs while Danny Welbeck also got some playing time for the first time since he was injured in May.
Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez scored on either side of the half-time for the Gunners, while two own goals piled up more misery on the relegation threatened Swansea City.
Giroud continued his rich form for Arsenal in the premier league. He scored in the 37th minute, making the most out of a scramble in front of the Swansea goal. This was his fifth goal in the last five matches for his club, scoring one goal in each game. He has scored in all the previous nine matches that he has started in the playing XI.
Two deflected own goals in the 54th and 67th minute, both off shots from Alex Iwobi, took the game out of reach for the Swans.
Alexis Sanchez then scored the fourth goal of the game in the 73rd minute. This goal took his tally to 14 goals, level with Diego Costa as the top scorer in premier league this season. Meanwhile, this goal took the goals conceded tally of Swansea to 49, worst in the league this season. Alexis Sanchez though became furious after he was substituted later in the game by Arsene Wenger.
In another match, a Harry Kane hattrick lead Tottenham to a 4-0 win against West Brom. This win takes Tottenham to the second position, one point ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool with Liverpool having played a game lesser.
Liverpool face rival title challengers Manchester United while Manchester City face Everton on January 15 in the remaining matches of week 21 of the league.
