The Australian open 2017 round of 32 was a shocker like the previous day. Shock eliminations and hard fought matches are becoming a regular thing even though it is early in the tournament.
Spanish star Rafael Nadal faced German Alexander Zverev. The game was a back and forth affair. Zverev won the first and third set while Nadal won the second, fourth and fifth set to take the game. The game ended 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(5-7), 6-3, 6-2. Tournament shocker Denis Istomin also had a back and forth battle with Pablo Carreno Busta. Istomin beat Busta 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. World number 14 Roberto Bautista Agut beat David Ferrer in a 4 set battle. Agut won the match 7-5, 6-7(6-8), 7-6(7-3), 6-4 to stay in the tournament. World number 3 Milos Raonic had a rather easy outing dropping only one set in his win. Raonic beat Frenchmen Simon 6-2, 7-6(7-5), 3-6, 6-3. “Baby Federer” Grigor Dimitrov also won beating Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
Nadal, Murray and Federer still remain in contention for the title
In the Women’s singles, Johanna Konta beat Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 for the win. While, Serena Williams beat Nicole Gibbs 6-1, 6-3 to stay in the hunt for her 7th Australian Open win.
Also in the Double’s competition, Both set of brothers remained in the hunt. Feliciano and Marc Lopez beat Martin and Eysseric 6-4, 6-4. Similarly, Twins Bob and Mike Bryan beat Zverev and Zimonjic 6-3, 6-2. While in women’s doubles competition, Martina Hingis and her new new partner Vandeweghe were knocked out by Australian duo Dellacqua and Barty 6-2, 7-5.
Indian tennis players had a great outing today in the Mixed Double’s. Rohan Bopanna and Swiss player Dabrowski battled Srebotnik and Venus. Bopanna and Dabrowski emerged winners beating their opponents 6-4, 6-7(5-7), 10-7. Sania Mirza and her partner Dodig beat Pavic and Seigemund 7-5, 6-4 to stay in contention.
The Australian Open is still anybody’s game still. Every game till now has been hard fought and we will definitely get to see more of those as the tournament progresses.
